Neighbourhood of Fear
Months have passed since officials expelled police cadet Jo-Ann Gauthier from the Quebec National Police Academy. Powerful adversaries manufactured allegations of cheating in a calculated attempt to derail her career. Jo understands that she has been targeted by influential actors, although the full extent of their interest has yet to be revealed. No one has allowed her a chance to defend herself nor any path to reclaim the future she worked so hard for.
Grief follows closely behind injustice. While Jo struggled to stay afloat, working a short-term bar job in Mexico, her beloved Aunt Dorothy died unexpectedly. Upon Jo’s return, her estranged family orders her to clear out Dorothy’s house and stay out of the way. Questions fester. The funeral was rushed, family members refused to speak plainly, and the circumstances of Dorothy’s death carry a troubling air of secrecy.
Back in Quebec, the same unseen forces that sabotaged Jo’s career begin to close in. Threats multiply. Her isolation deepens. Jo recognizes that she has become a target, though she cannot yet grasp the true scope of the conspiracy surrounding her.
Alone, cut off from the only person who ever cared for her, Jo must navigate a hostile landscape and uncover the truth before those pursuing her succeed in destroying her entirely. The question is not simply who she can trust. It is whether anyone will come to her aid at all.
